“Burano, Venice” is an oil painting of the island’s vibrant facades.
The colorful homes in Burano, one of the many islands which make up Venice. The story I was told was that, originally a fishing village, when the men came home after fishing and a visit to the local taverna, they painted their homes the same color as their boats so they would know which was their home. No longer a fishing village it is now known for its lace making, a craft handed down from one generation to the other. Even today the homes must stay the same color.
