🎨 Artist Statement

For Debbie Bennetts, every artwork begins with colour. She uses colour to evoke warmth, optimism, and emotional connection. Fascinated by the way colours interact, communicate, and evoke feeling, she creates work that celebrates joy, curiosity, and the simple pleasure of visual discovery.

What began as beach landscapes and portraits of family and friends has evolved into a diverse artistic practice spanning abstract painting, charcoal drawing, ceramics, and glass. While each medium offers its own creative language, glass sculpture holds a special place in her artistic journey. In 2015, a glass installation received recognition with an award from the Queensland College of Art.

Guided by a playful approach to creativity, Debbie embraces experimentation and exploration in her work.

"Playing is fun."

Her artworks invite viewers to engage with colour, texture, and form in a way that is uplifting, personal, and open to interpretation.

Debbie holds a Bachelor of Fine Art (Honours) from Griffith University and also studied at the Edinburgh College of Art. Since 2004, she has exhibited extensively and has been selected as a finalist in numerous exhibitions and gallery shows.

Creating commissioned works is one of the most rewarding aspects of her practice.

"It is like sharing a little piece of yourself."
